It's almost as if I was waiting for Tuesday just so I could have coffee with all of you. And believe it or not, I actually went to a coffee shop this week (as I had promised), just so I could make this all the more real. :) Let's all head over to Amy's and have a cuppa coffee, shall we?
It's so great to see you all after an entire week. There's quite a bit that I want to share this week. But before that, what will you have?? I'll have a Cafe Mocha this week. I'm in the mood for a little bit of chocolate as well.
So since we're all set, let's start talking. If we were really meeting for coffee today, I would tell you how glad I am to see you because I've been meaning to talk to a friend for a long time - a girl especially. I would give you a gigantic bear hug (and of course, let go just before you'd be short of breath! :P) I would ask you how you were and how your week was?? Especially the weekend! It has got to be great with all the Halloween celebrations!! Tell me about it! I soooo wanna know!
Then, I would tell you that I was finally able to speak to Oswald today (who is in Australia for the past two and a half years now.) I have been trying to call him for a the past few days and I didn't realise that they are four and a half hours ahead of India. He finally called me back today. I wanted to check how he was doing since the time I found out last week that he had and his girlfriend, Trisha, had to break-up.
In India we have this things where, if two people are in love with each other, they need their parents to agree for them to be able to get married. Not all couples wait for their parents' approvals. Some are rebellious and do what they want to irrespective of what their parents feel, some fight and wait until their parents agree and get married happily with parents' blessings; whereas some give into family pressure and break-up.
Oswald and Trisha had to break-up because her parents would not accept him. Trisha's family is pretty rich - very rich actually; whereas Oswald is from a middle class family. Her parents' concern is that she should have a lifestyle similar to theirs when she gets married. Although they're both just twenty-four, her parents have been searching for a groom for her for the past two years and she has somehow been putting it off. A week or so ago, it all became very complicated and they had to break up.
If I had been in her place, I would've fought a little harder. I cannot fathom the fact that you can give up on someone you love so easily. To get your way, you don't necessarily have to disrespect your parents. There are millions of ways to do it peacefully! I mean, haven't we learned anything from Hindi movies??
But when I spoke to him, he sounded okay. He was upset, but apparently they're being very practical about it. I don't understand how getting married to someone when you clearly are in love with someone else, is practical? And how is it fair to the other person?? It's all such a big mess. Her family is being so inconsiderate!!! I would never let it go... AT ALL!!
But since they both are okay with it, who am I to say anything more? I have to admit that I was a little more than agitated at the entire thing though. Truly. But then that's that.
In other news, I would tell you that I have been doing well. Much better than how I was the past few months. I shopped for Diwali this weekend. I got a pretty pink dress (salwaar kameez) as well as a blue one for the festival. :) The house is being cleaned, the festive lights are out and lit, and pretty soon there'll be diya's all around the house. I'll try to post pictures, if possible.
It was really nice chatting with you today. I'll catch you again next Tuesday. Have a great week! :)
